PERTH 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships

ISAF has released the bidding dates for the 2014 ISAF Sailing World Championships. Organisers of the next Event (the Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships), which will be held between 3-18 December, 2011 are encouraging international bodies to apply to host the subsequent World Championships.

Perth 2011 Event Director John Longley explained that the dates were fast approaching and that those interested in bidding for the 2014 event should prepare their applications soon.

“ISAF has determined that preliminary bids must be received by 15th October 2010 and that final bids are due by December (1st December 2010).  The ISAF Executive Committee will decide on the venue for the 2014 ISAF Sailing World Championships by February 2011,” Mr Longley said.

He said that this announcement also provided a timely reminder for nations to book their place at one or both of Perth 2011’s two upcoming international standard Observer Programmes. One is targeted at bidding cities and the other is aimed at host cities.

“Perth 2011’s Observer Programme for Bidding Cities (to run between 25-27 August 2010) targets cities and organisations planning on bidding for any big event, not just sailing events.  It will provide them with the inside knowledge, assisting them to vie for the rights to hold an international event, against tough opposition,” he said.

“The Observer Programme for Host Cities will give participants a behind-the-scenes look at the elite Perth 2011 Event through a series of operational visits, briefings by senior executives and via interactive workshops, which will cover topics including event planning, venue and event operations, commercial operations, broadcast and media, sport and ancillary activities.”

Mr Longley explained that both programmes, which will be conducted in Perth, Western Australia, had been designed by a highly qualified Olympic and Paralympic expert and that each had a specific purpose.  The bidding cities programme will be relevant to those aspiring to host the 2014 ISAF Sailing World Championships and other major events.  The host cities programme is a more hands-on initiative and will run during the Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships, in December next year.
