Andrey Quinteno
Andrey grew up in the small town of Guativita on the banks of the of Tominé Lake reservoir, northwest of Bogotá, Columbia. There are several sailing and recreational clubs situated around the reservoir, and Andrey says his “world soon started to revolve around sailing, dinghies and racing.”
By 2002 he decided that “sailing was his life’s path” and in 2004 he set out with the goal to qualify for an Olympic Games via a training programme sailing Lasers.
A five-time national champion in the laser class, he won a gold medal in the Bolivarianos Sailing Games in 2009 and is the President of the laser class in Colombia.
Recently, Quintero finished in the Gold Fleet at the ISAF World Cup event the Rolex Miami OCR 2011.
He hopes to become more professional and competitive in his home country and help athletes from Colombia achieve their Olympic dream, making the sport of sailing a viable choice for them.
