Akshan Jirasinha
Nadine De Rosayro’s compatriot Akshan Jirasinha also comes from Colombo, Sri Lanka. They are both trained by Jirasinha’s father Lalin, who competed at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games (in the 470 class) and the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games (in the Finn class) in sailing. Lalin Jirasinha also won a Bronze Medal at the 1998 Asian Games! Akshan Jirasinha is currently studying a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Renewable Energy. He says the lack of funding and equipment and restriction of lake sailing in Sri Lanka limits opportunities for sailors. He says ‘competitive sailing requires one to be tactically superior, technically sound and physically fit’. He won the Youth World Championships in the Enterprise Class in 2006, UK.
