Women’s 470: Greek team back in the game
After finishing 17th in Women’s 470 at the Olympic test event in Weymouth and Portland, Perth 2011 is the first regatta they have competed in since August.
“We had some difficulties at the start, but we’re starting to get back into the spirit of the race,” Tsigaridi said. “Monday was the first day so we had some time to get our minds to focus.”
After three months without competition, the opening day’s racing was somewhat of a learning curve.
“It was so-so, it’s been a long time since we raced,” Kravarioti said.
While the pair hopes for a spot at the London 2012 Olympic Games, they don’t want to call it too early.
“We will try to win we hope, but we don’t want to say before the regatta finishes,” Kravarioti said.
“The competition is strong because every country has a strong crew and most of the boats are really well prepared,” she said.
After racing on Wednesday Kravarioti and Tsigaridi were in 24th position overall in the 48-boat fleet.
Women’s 470 is scheduled to continue on Friday 16 December after a rest day on Thursday, with the Medal Race scheduled for Centre Course on Sunday 18 December.
