Day 7 Finn: Ainslie recaptures overall lead ahead of the weekend’s Medal Race
Ainslie is two points ahead of Giles Scott (GBR) with Pieter-Jan Postma (NED) five points behind in third place at the Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships.
Race 8 was an all British affair, with Scott over the line first followed by Ainslie, Ed Wright (GBR), and Andrew Mills (GBR). Only a minute separated the top four at the finish.
Ainslie and Scott took out a race each on Friday, but while Ainslie followed his win up with a second placing, Scott finished 10th in race seven.
Scott said: “I had a very bad start. I was kind of on the back foot. I could only pull up to 10th because the spacing was so great.”
World number one Ed Wright rounds out the top three for Great Britain with second and third placings on Friday.
He shares third place overall with Postma (NED), who had a disappointing day compared to his two wins on Thursday.
The four top ranking competitors are well clear of the rest of the field, with Jonathan Lobert (FRA), Rafael Trujillo (ESP), Andrew Mills (GBR), and Jonas Hoeg-Christensen (DEN) rounding out the top eight.
In the Silver fleet, Canadian Brendan Wilton has had another win.
