Laser Radial: Evi Van Acker (BEL) leading the pack after day 3

Racing was delayed by light winds but the sea breeze kicked in an hour later at the steady eight to 10 knots over the Parmelia course.

By race two for both fleets, the wind had increased to 15 knots, giving the sailors typical Fremantle conditions.

In the Yellow Fleet, the day belonged to Evi Van Acker (BEL). The world number two dominated, winning both races.

“First race was pretty light and in the second race the speeds increased we had to hike a lot which was nice as it was pretty warm,” she said.

World number five, Paige Railey (USA) had a mixed day. She finished race one in eighth place, but managed to stay on top of the conditions to take a second in race two.

“It was interesting. The wind velocity was up and down. I made a mistake in the first race which put me in eight and in the second I got a second,” Railey said.

In the Blue Fleet, Veronika Fenclova (CZE) and Marit Bouwmeester (NED) were the stand-out performers. Fenclova, the world number three, finished first and third.

“I had a bad start (in race two) but I was really fast on the downwind,” Fenclova said.

The current world number one, Marit Bouwmeester was consistent with a third and a second.

But world number two, Evi Van Acker (BEL) could not have started the ISAF Worlds any better.

After posting two wins, she said: “I’m very happy and looking towards tomorrow. It’s all good”.
