Perth 2011 Greets Endeavour

Endeavour left her overnight mooring near Rottnest at daybreak and was greeted by 21 Perth 2011 Race Management boats and members of Perth’s local yachting community.

As she moved closer to Fremantle, she was also met by a very special guest in world number six ranked Laser Radial sailor and former World Champion Weir, who sailed into Fremantle Harbour with the ship.

Weir is in Perth to train ahead of the Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships, 3-18 December 2011, at which Endeavour will play a starring role as she takes enthusiasts on day sails and hosts cocktail parties and Great Cabin Dinners in the evenings.

Perth 2011 Event Director John Longley, who was central to the building of Endeavour and twice sailed her around the world, said it was a special moment to see her return to her birthplace.

“I’m simply delighted to see her back where it all began and full credit needs to be given to the Australian National Maritime Museum for the fantastic condition she is in,” Longley said.

“The crew does a wonderful job sailing her and seeing her sail in this morning brings back wonderful memories for everyone involved with her creation here in Fremantle.”

Endeavour is open to public in Fremantle from Friday 14 October until 1 November before heading to Bunbury and then back to Perth late November to take up residency for the World Championships.
