Perth 2011 ENP Continues to Make Waves

Published on 07/06/11

In what is an unprecedented initiative for international sailing, the Emerging Nations Programme (ENP) was conceived as an additional benefit offered by the Perth 2011 Bid Committee to the International Sailing Federation (ISAF) as part of its bid to secure the 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships.

The ENP encourages and assists developing sailing nations to participate in the Olympic Sailing Competition.  It is designed to increase the number of participating ISAF Member National Authorities (MNAs) and, subsequently, the number of competitors at the Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships.

It is hoped that emerging talent identified during the ENP will qualify to represent their countries in the London 2012 Olympic Sailing Competition.

One such athlete is Serbia’s Dany Stanisic who placed 31st in the field of 123, on day one of the Laser competition at the 2011 Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta, the sixth ISAF Sailing World Cup Regatta, in Weymouth, Great Britain.

The Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta is Dany’s first ISAF Sailing World Cup this year, and he paid tribute to his involvement in the Perth 2011 Emerging Nations Programme, when asked about his result at Weymouth.

Hear what he had to say, in this great video by the ISAF Sailing World Cup on YouTube. Also take a look to see how fellow ENP athlete Andrew Lewis of Trinidad and Tobago is enjoying the ISAF Sailing World Cup circuit here, as he continues to improve, showing great promise ahead of the Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships in December.
