Meet John Bertrand Club Member Denis Horgan
With his wife Tricia Horgan AM, they founded the Leeuwin Estate winery, in Western Australia’s Margaret River region in 1974 and together with their family continue to strive for excellence across all facets of the Estate’s operations. Their mission was to produce wines that ranked with the best in the world, through the pursuit of excellence. One of the icon wineries of Australia, producing only 0.05 per cent of the nation’s wine, Leeuwin Estate has earned an international reputation for making wines that rank alongside the world's finest.
Leeuwin has been recognised through the receipt of numerous awards for its wines, restaurant, architecture, environment, arts endeavours, and as a leader in wine tourism.
The Estate is one of Western Australia's leading tourist attractions. Thousands of enthusiasts visit each year to taste the quality of Leeuwin Estate’s wines, view the collection of contemporary Australian artworks on display in the Art Gallery, enjoy an alfresco summertime concert, dine in the restaurant, or simply relax in Leeuwin’s spectacular pristine setting.
Denis and Tricia are dual recipients of Western Australia's highest wine industry and tourism awards and have both been admitted to the Order of Australia for their contribution to the wine and tourism industries.
Denis has had a long-time passion for surfing and football. He enjoys spending time with his nine grandchildren, playing golf, supporting the West Coast Eagles, travelling, cooking and entertaining friends.
