Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships Progressing Well
Welcome to the fourth edition of The Dream Begins in Perth, the official monthly enewsletter of Perth 2011.
Since the last edition of The Dream Begins in Perth, I am pleased to inform you that we are making strong progress in anticipation for the Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships, to be held between 3rd and 18th of December, 2011.
Setting off for Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta
I will be travelling to Weymouth, Great Britain this month, with Perth 2011 Director Commercial Operations Darren Beazley for the ISAF Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta 2009, to be held in the UK between the 14th and 19th of September, 2009.
The competition will take place at Weymouth and Portland's world-renowned sailing centre, which is the venue for the sailing competition at the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games.
More than 500 boats are expected to compete in all 10 Olympic disciplines at the regatta, including the new Women’s Match Racing discipline, with the women sailing in the Elliot 6m’s. Three Paralympic disciplines will also be part of the regatta. This is the seventh and final event of the 2008-09 ISAF Sailing World Cup series.

Preparations for Emerging Nations Programme Camp 2 On Track
Member National Authorities applications closed at the end of last month for the next Emerging Nations Programme (ENP) Camp, which will take place between the 20th November and the 11th of December, 2009. Athletes from several emerging sailing nations will be selected to participate in the next ENP Camp. If it is anything like the inaugural Camp, it will be a tremendous success.
|
Athletes practice racing at the first Emerging Nations Programme Camp.
|
As was the case with the inaugural Camp, athletes who are on the cusp of being able to compete at World Championship level will be invited to Australia to train under our Head ENP Coaches, former World Number One and Beijing 2008 Olympic Coach Arthur Brett and Sydney 2000 Olympic Gold Medallist Belinda Stowell. The goal is to progress the sailors to a standard, which will allow them to compete at the Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships, the primary qualifying Event for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

From the Engine Room
The past month has been extremely hectic for the Perth 2011 commercial division. Not only have we been “bedding down” our new commercial arrangements, staff have been actively seeking new sponsors to come on board and assist us with what will be a fantastic Olympic qualifying Event.
Perth 2011 has begun work on a number of areas, which we hope will deliver real value to our commercial partners, including the possible involvement of charitable organisations and a commitment to the environment. Perth 2011 will be calling for Expressions of Interest from charitable organisations to align with the Event in the next month or so. Full details will appear on the website and I encourage you to keep an eye out for that in the weeks ahead.
In terms of environmental responsibility, readers of The Dream Beings in Perth will be aware that Perth 2011 has partnered with Carbon Conscious. We have been learning a great deal about this particular activity and begun to adapt some of our operational activities in order to reflect an environmental awareness and responsible attitude to our preparations for Perth 2011.
Perth 2011 Event Director John Longley and I will be travelling to Weymouth in the UK for the Sail for Gold Regatta next week. We hope to gain experiences from that regatta and apply some of our knowledge to the key areas of Perth 2011, such as television production and distribution and other aspects. I will then be going on to the USA to meet with people regarding several other commercial prospects, with a view to engaging international organisations in this fantastic Event, the Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships. |
 |
Once again, on behalf of all of us here at Perth 2011, thank you for your continued support of this wonderful Event.
Best Wishes,

Darren Beazley

Commercial Accommodation Services Provider
As we have reported in the previous edition of The Dream Begins in Perth, we have been approached by several large travel organisations to assist us with our accommodation requirements. We are in the final stages of the appointment process and will make an announcement in relation to the successful organisation, shortly. This will be a crucial element for the Event and I would encourage you to visit our website for further information. Please direct people seeking accommodation in Perth leading up to or during the Event to perth2011.com. Support those who support us.
Commercial Supply Opportunity
To successfully conduct the ISAF Sailing World Championships Perth 2011 has a requirement to purchase up to 28 Rigid Inflatable Boats (RIBs). Perth 2011 requires the RIBs to have an approximate LOA of between 5 to 6 metres, with the engine capacity to match and supplied on a trailer.
These boats are to be used in the off-shore waters between the Port of Fremantle and Woodman Point.
In keeping with the contractual obligations of this Event, Perth 2011 will put this requirement to tender through an initial Expression of Interest. This will be advertised in The West Australian newspaper on Saturday September 19th, 2009.
For further information please call Sales Manager Peter Bowman on (08) 9335 2688.

Exhilarating Season of Sailing Winds up in Northern Hemisphere
There has been plenty happening in the action-packed sport of sailing in the Northern Hemisphere!
Several Olympic class championships came to an end in North America and Europe, including The Laser World Championship, held in Canada, the 470 World Championship, in Denmark and the 2009 Finn European Championship, which was held in Bulgaria.
Beijing Olympic Gold Medallist Paul Goodison, of Great Britain, won his first World Championship recently, after taking out the Laser World Championships in Halifax, Canada. New Zealand’s Michael Bullot came in second and Goodison’s compatriot Nick Thompson claimed his first ever World
Championship Medal, by winning bronze at the regatta.

Croatia also made its mark at the 2009 Finn European Championship, held in Varna, Bulgaria recently. Croatia’s Ivan Kljakovic Gaspic is the 2009 Finn European Champion. Gaspic is number #1
in the ISAF World Rankings. Finland’s Tapio Nirkko, who placed second overall, was tough competition for Gaspic. Great Britain’s Ed Wright took the bronze.
