Observers Programme

Overview

The Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships Observer Programme will be conducted in conjunction with the Regatta in December 2011. Full details of the schedule and programme content will be available closer to the Event.

The programme is being created by a highly experienced Olympic and Paralympic Games expert and as such, the content will be extremely relevant to large, multi-sport events, as well as large single-sport events at an International level.

Perth 2011 will have five “fields of play” (courses), 10 classes with more than 950 boats and more than 1,400 athletes from about 70 nations competing in excess of 100 separate races. Additionally there will be more than 200 support vessels, five boat parks, an Athletes’ Village and a public Event Village showcasing sailing. Other venues include an International Broadcasting and Media Centre, a Regatta Office, a volunteer centre and various locations for Accreditation, Boat Measurement, storage and other ancillary purposes.

Structure

This programme will involve a series of operational visits enabling a “behind the scenes” experience of a large Event, together with briefings from Perth 2011 senior executives and operational staff. Interactive workshops and the provision of an Observer Programme information kit form part of the programme.

A programme launch and briefing will clarify the objectives and the final content, while a debriefing will allow for final questions and a final information exchange. While the detailed daily programme is yet to be finalised, it is anticipated that the following key areas will be included -
