Importing under Carnet ATA

It is highly recommended to use a Carnet ATA document for the clearance of your shipment.

The Carnet ATA is an international customs document that allows goods to be brought into Australia without the payment of Customs duty and taxes (you may compare it to an "international passport" for your goods).

The use of a Carnet ATA is to cover the temporary admission of goods, which considerably simplifies and expedites the formalities for temporary passage into Australia and return to origin.

Once your cargo arrives at Fremantle Port, Schenker Australia Pty Ltd will present all relevant documents including your Carnet ATA to Australian Customs for processing and clearance.

Important – if you are not using a Carnet ATA

For import of road trailers, special rules apply.

All road trailers are subject to a Vehicle Import Approval (VIA) from the Department of Transport and Regional Services (DOTARS).

This Approval has to be obtained PRIOR to the arrival of your cargo into Fremantle port.

Quarantine Matters

Goods imported into Australia are subject to full quarantine formalities. Prior to exporting your yacht and other equipment, you are required to fulfil the following:

Remove all dirt/sand, organic material, etc. from the yacht and trailer

Thoroughly clean off all wheels and wheel arches of the trailer

Sails to be neatly rolled

Tool boxes and support equipment to be thoroughly cleaned and free of organic material

Keep in mind – all cargo needs to be spotless clean to get approval from the Australian Quarantine Authorities. A special form - the Packing Declaration - is required.

Please visit www.aqis.gov.au for more details.

Yacht Loading

All yachts are required to be securely lashed to your trailer/yard trolley prior to hand over to Schenker Australia Pty Ltd. This is your responsibility. Your local DB SCHENKERsportseventscontact will work out a loading plan together with and for you.

Insurance

It is the responsibility of each owner to provide Transport Insurance coverage for their goods (yacht and equipment) in transit to and from the event, including the duration of the event. Your local DB SCHENKER sportsevents contact can provide you with an insurance quote based on the individual location and value of your yacht.
