Perth has a free bus service that operates around the Central Business District (CBD). These buses are called CATS (Central Area Transport Service). The buses have a set route and arrive approximately every five to 10 minutes. The CAT routes are either colour-coded red or blue from Mondays to Fridays and there is a special modified yellow route runs on weekends.
Fremantle also has a free CAT bus route, which runs seven days a week and completes a circuit around the City of Fremantle, stopping at popular places. This provides tourists with easy access to major attractions and venues.
Perth also has an extensive metropolitan train and bus service. The trains run on five lines from Perth to Armadale, Fremantle, Joondalup, Midland and the new Mandurah line, and return.

No city knows how to stage a party like Perth! After dark, the restaurants, pubs and clubs of Northbridge, Leederville, Subiaco, Mount Lawley and Fremantle come alive. Join the party atmosphere or dine on sumptuous local cuisine at one of the many great restaurants. Or enjoy a relaxed sense of sophistication at Claremont or Cottesloe.
Fine food and wine is now as synonymous with Western Australia, as sunshine and surf. It is all about fresh produce, dining alfresco and enjoying friendly service.
The area bordered by William, James, Aberdeen and Parker Streets is where you will find restaurants offering every cuisine imaginable, as well as many pubs, bars and clubs. On weekends the streets are full of excitement. Northbridge is five minutes from the CBD.
Oxford Street is always busy in the evenings. Full of professionals after work, families and students - the crowd is diverse. Many outlets are cafe style, with Mediterranean food but you will also find Asian and seafood restaurants, pizza parlours and kebab takeaway shops. The Leederville Hotel is a happening place, as is the Oxford Hotel, at the northern end of the street. Leederville is only five minutes from the CBD.
This area buzzes on weeknights and weekends. Rokeby Road and Hay Street are where you will find the most action. Subiaco is perhaps best known for its quality restaurants from fine dining to takeaway, from Italian to Asian. The Subiaco Hotel is the central gathering place but there are other smaller bars and clubs that get busy once the hotel closes. Subiaco is just 10 minutes from the CBD.
Beaufort Street is one of the most popular and diverse places to head for a night out. With lively pubs, excellent bars, and some of Perth's top restaurants, you cannot go past it. There is also a good mix of noodle and pizza bars. Mt Lawley is only 10 minutes from the CBD.
The area around Bay View Terrace is full of designer shoppers during the day, who spill into bars, pubs and great pizzeria restaurants at night. See the 'who's who' of Perth unwinding in this fashionable area. Claremont is 15 minutes from the CBD.
For beachside pubs and cafes check out Marine Terrace, while Napoleon Street is home to stylish eateries, tearooms and good shopping. Cottesloe is 20 minutes from the CBD.
